S-40 Strapping Printer - Branding for Boxes
Apex Machine have been designing and engineering customized parts handling and printing solutions for three dimensional products for over 100 years. The company is active in a wide range of industry areas including Medical, Automotive, Cosmetics, Food Packaging, Pharmaceutical, Hardware, Household Goods, Military & Munitions, Sporting Goods, Electronics and more. Over 50% of the company’s production is exported to countries all around the globe.
Recent developments include a new printer system for handling various types of box and carton strapping materials. The S-40 Strapping printer systems are primarily designed to print strapping materials of various widths directly from reel to reel, applying corporate branding and slogans in multi-colors. The printers can be supplied with 2 to 6 color printing capability.
The appropriate width strapping material is webbed onto an automatic pulling unit where the controls are activated to pre-treat the material to make it more susceptible to ink adhesion, print it in multiple colors using the dry offset process, dry the print image either by exposure to ultraviolet light, or by hot air to cure the graphics. The reel to reel printing process makes it simple for suppliers of box strapping materials to handle customized image requirements for their customers, potentially a great sales tool to gain extra business and margin.
Oversized colors heads can be utilized to imprint a maximum repeat of up to 30 inches.
This system can be engineered to run in line with a customer’s extruders and in four-lane configuration at production rates of up to 350 feet per minute.
Apex President Bob Coningsby commented, “we are often asked to provide systems for printing onto extruded plastics in a wide range of applications, for example printing woodgrain finishes onto furniture trimmings. This application for decorating onto industrial strapping for boxes is a natural for us with our excperience of handling reel to reel printing of extrusions and we could see the potential for this printer with many strapping producers who would like to have the ability to offer their customers customized graphics and advertising on the product. In these difficult trading times being able to offer something a bit different from competiotors can help in building market shares. ”
